He is in Palietive care in a hospital and they have arranged accommodation for Sarah and Paul close by - otherwise it would have been a 2 hour comute on public transport. each way. | Comments: | This is a message to all our Royal Engineer friends, Families and attached personnel, both military and civilian staff that served in hameln over the last 67 years. Some of you will know that Jorg was diagnosed with Cancer a few months ago. Things have not been easy and on some occasions looking after our family and running the hotel has become too much for us. It is with Sadness in our hearts that we decided to sell the business so that we can concentrate on our family and resume some quality of life and look after Jorg. This phase of our lives will be completed at the end of September when we move out and hand over the keys to what many of you know as Georges Bar/Hotel. The staff will be staying on so nothing will change except the name of the owners. We will still be staying in Hameln and we will be visiting you all on the reunions which we hope will continue for many years to come. The 2ic in Aden was Piers Eyre who Met again some two years ago; sadly he is not a well man. Bridge building in Bavaria was our main activity when the Sqn visited Ramsau in 1964 and 65; I still have some great photos of the 5Troop bridges with SSgt Gabriel, Cpl Cooper and others. I more or less went straight from Aden to secondment to the Malaysian Engineers for nearly three years, based in Taiping and Tawau, North Borneo. |

That Christmas we were sking and stayed at Ramsau and met a group of Franch students, after a dance in the village a landrover returning them to Berchtesgaden left the road and went into river. |

Missed the Aden tour due to ear infection (so the quack said) and went into the 35 Regt gym for the six months with Frank Hawkins, Leo Howson, Fred Buckley and little ginge Smith. 30 Sqn must have been a good influence, stayed in the Corps for almost 30 years. Still see Johnny McGivern quite often to reminise about the really good times in "The Squadron" |

I was a REME CFN along with Jim Porter with the Sqn in Aden and Hameln. done a bit for you to keep the Saracens and vehicle fleet rolling although the terrain, conditions and odd explosive done their best to ensure we were kept busy. | Comments: | I was a Spr with 5 Troop 30 Sqn in Hameln June 1965 to Dec 1968. Served in Aden where I was prom to Lcpl for services to brown nosing. Worked for the SQMS Joe Dorman and along side Jacko Jackson, Hutch Hutchison and Mac somebody. I have some pics if can be downloaded. Met the OC Mike Nottingham in 1985 - he was still a Major and 2 i/c of MCTC. Quite shocked as I thought he would do well. Rubbed shoulders with shiny Clive Dyson on occasion but have not met many other old collegues on my travels. Thinking of Aden I have to laugh at the current hoo ha over equipment - if they could only have seen what we had to use! Are there any forthcoming reunions? |
